H. Jeffrey Baker, age 77, passed away peacefully at the St. Francis Hospice Center in Wilmington on Thursday, December 12, 2024 after a short battle with pancreatic cancer.
Jeffrey was born in West Chester, PA on August 19, 1947 and later moved to Delaware with his parents. He was employed at Moore and Black Contractors of West Chester, PA where he worked as a carpenter with his uncle, Austin Moore, and his cousin, Gerald Moore. Retiring from there, he worked at Baldwin Electric of West Chester, PA with Dick Baldwin and later worked part time as a painter at Nice Painting with George Nice.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Linda S.; his parents, Harry T. and Alice M.; and his step-mother, Margaret P. Baker. He is survived by his wife of almost 60 years, JoAnn McCarty Baker; a son, James L. (Joanne); daughter, L. Kristin (Steve Kempczynski); and three grandchildren, Thomas Jeffrey Baker, Jaime Regina Baker, and Vincent Anthony Kempczynski.
The family would like to thank Dr. Lapinsky and staff at the Helen Graham Center and the Delaware Hospice nurses, Kayla, Jen and CNA, Beverly. And a special thank you to all of our friends and family for their support.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 27th, at McCrery & Harra Funeral Home (3710 Kirkwood Hwy, Wilmington, DE 19808). Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. The family will hold a private interment following the service. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Jeffrey can be made to the Brandywine Valley SPCA (290 Churchmans Rd, New Castle, DE 19720).
