Edler, Leroy “Roy”, Jr.

Leroy “Roy” Edler, Jr., age 80, of Lewes, DE, formerly of Wilmington, DE passed away on Thursday, December 26, 2024 at Cadia Rehabilitation Renaissance in Millsboro, DE.

He was born Wilmington, DE and raised in Mt. Cuba, DE and is the son of the late Mildred (Short) and Leroy Edler, Sr. He graduated from A. I. DuPont High School in 1962. Immediate after high school Roy enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, where he served for four years. He was honorably discharged as a Sergeant. Upon his return to civilian life, he received an associate’s degree from the former Goldey-Beacom Community College.

Roy retried from Rumsey Electric where he worked in the sales department. Earlier in his life he worked for Sherwin Williams Paint, Pyrite, Inc at the Wilmington Port Authority, and Harris Hanby Reality.

Roy was a loyal member of Marine Corp League, Gen. Thomas Holcomb Detachment, # 814 where he was a past Commandant. He attended The Lighthouse Baptist Church in Lewes, DE. Leroy enjoyed classic cars, especially Ford Mustangs and fishing. He also enjoyed traveling with his wife Linda; two of their best trips were to Ireland and Alaska on a cruise.

Along with his wife Linda of 20 years, he is survived by his daughters, Rhondalyn Clark, Stacy Helvey and Amy Edler all of Louisville, KY; sons, Scotty Le Edler, Sr. (Dr. Melisa M. Edler, MD) of Milton, DE and Matthew J. Edler (Lindsay Baker) of Camden-Wyoming, DE; grandchildren, Maeli Clark, Travis and Kyle Helvey and Scotty Le Edler, Jr and his nephew, Daniel R. Kirchdoerfer. Roy is also preceded in death by his sister Joan Kirchdoerfer and his step-father William Reiff.

A committal service will be held on Wednesday, January 8 at 11 am followed by military honors at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear, DE 19701

The family suggests donations be made to Marine Corp League, Gen. Thomas Holcomb Detachment, #814, 3920 Kirkwood Hwy, Wilmington, DE 19808 or to The Lighthouse Baptist Church, 21265 John J. Williams Hwy, Lewes, DE 19958.
