Douglas, Matthew Scott

1970 - 2024

Matthew Scott Douglas, 54, left his earthly body on Saturday, December 28, 2024, in Wilmington, DE. He was born in Battle Creek, MI in December 1970, the son of Gilbert Lee Douglas and Wanda Faye (Webb) Douglas. Matthew was a servant leader all of his life. He started following Jesus at age 6 at Thomas Road Baptist Church in Lynchburg, VA. He served in many churches as a sound tech and student ministry. He served in the United States Army from 1992-1996 in Hinesville, GA. Matthew was diagnosed and lived half his life with symptoms from Huntington’s Disease, a fatal genetic disorder that causes the progressive breakdown of nerve cells in the brain. He is continuing to serve others by donating his brain to Harvard Brain Tissue Resource Center to help find a cure for Huntington’s Disease.

Matthew married Karen (Patch) Douglas in July 1995, in Wilmington, DE. He is survived by his godly devoted and faithful wife of 29 years. Matthew’s mother, Wanda Douglas, preceded him in death. He is survived by his father, Gilbert Douglas (Jackie) of Battle Creek, MI and by his siblings, Gilbert Douglas II (Tory) of Englewood, TN and Jennifer (Adrian) Nutt of Brocton, NY.

Matthew was known for his deep love for Jesus, his wife, and serving others. He chose perseverance in trials and suffering and was an inspiration to many. His joy from the Lord was contagious.
