Thomas Patrick Kelly, born on August 9, 1951, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully at his home in Delaware on January 4, 2025.
After attending Kings College, Tom built a successful career in the finance and banking industry until his retirement in 2008. In his later years, he found great joy in spending time with family and friends in Wilmington, Delaware and South Jersey. Tom was always generous with his time, ready and willing to talk through a problem or repair a computer in need. Also known for his quick wit and clever puns, Tom entertained those around him with his humor and remarkable trivia knowledge. Tom was an active member of the Sons of the American Legion Squadron 18 and the American Legion Post 18. He found great fulfillment serving his community through these organizations, especially in restoring local historic gravesites to honor veterans.
Tom is survived by his beloved wife, Sharon Kelly; his three stepdaughters, Amy (Bill) Gorman, Lindy (Steve) Scarborough, and Susan Nugent; as well as his cherished grandchildren, Will, James, and Abby. He is also survived by his nieces, Leigh Ann Sittineri and Amy Hulme, nephew Phillip Woolson, as well as many grandnieces, grandnephews, and extended family. Tom was preceded in death by his parents, James and Mary Kelly; his sisters, Maureen Woolson and Kathleen Carney; his brother, James Kelly; his niece, Suzanne Woolson, and his grandniece Emily Rose Sittineri.
A service to honor Tom’s life will be held on Saturday January 11,, 2025 at 11am at McCrery & Harra Funeral Home, at 3924 Concord Pike, Wilmington, DE, with visitation from 10-11am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Faithful Friends Animal Society, at 165 Airport Rd, New Castle, DE 19720.
