Hopkins, Kevin P.

Kevin P. Hopkins, age 64, of Wilmington, DE, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, January 8, 2025. He was born in Pennsauken, NJ, to the late Margaret and James Hopkins and moved with his family to Claymont as a young child.

Kevin is survived by his beloved wife of 42 years, Colleen A. Hopkins; his three children, Michael P. Hopkins (Morgan), Kevin P. Hopkins Jr., and Taylor A. Hopkins (Seth); and his four cherished grandchildren, Coraleigh, Logan, Kevin III, and Kylee. He is also survived by his siblings, James Hopkins (Cheryl), Robert Hopkins (Jane), Msgr. John Hopkins, Tim Hopkins (Maureen), Meg Gregg, Katie VanHeest (Bob), Patty Doogan (Sean), and Maribeth Hopkins. Kevin was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Chris Gregg Sr. and sister-in-law, Debbie Hopkins.

Kevin lived a life full of joy, surrounded by friends, family, and laughter. Known for his optimism, his ability to host a great party, and his infectious fun-loving attitude, he brought light to everyone around him. A lifelong fan of the Eagles, Phillies, and Sixers, Kevin’s passion for sports was evident throughout his life.

He graduated from Salesianum School in 1978 and Williamson Trade School in 1981, where he excelled in athletics, earning a football scholarship to Villanova University. Kevin dedicated 33 years of his professional life to Delmarva Power, where he held various positions.

In addition to his career, Kevin was an active member of his community. He coached baseball at Naamans Little League, football at Holy Rosary, and he also served as Pool Chairman at Delaware Veterans Post #1 (Del Vets). Kevin was a longtime member of Del Vets and a proud participant in the “Thirsty Thursday” crew.

He will be remembered for his gentle nature, unwavering commitment to his family, and the joy he brought to all who knew him.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 14, 2025, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at McCrery & Harra Funeral Home, 3924 Concord Pike, Wilmington, DE. Additional parking is available in the back portion of the Brandywine YMCA, 3 Mount Lebanon Rd, Wilmington. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Wednesday, January 15, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph on the Brandywine, 10 Old Church Rd., Wilmington, DE. Burial will follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Penn Memory Center. Checks should be payable to “The Trustees of the University of Pennsylvania,” with “Penn Memory Center” noted in the memo line.
