Karablacas, Eleni “Helen”

Eleni “Helen” Karablacas left this world on January 17, 2025 at the age of 95. She was born in Chios, Greece to Yianni and Sevasti Kotzamichalis and emigrated to the United States in 1962.

Before coming to the United States, Eleni raised her two younger brothers in a village far from their parents, ensuring they each received a proper education. At a young age, she learned to be strong, independent and self-sufficient.

Eleni was loved by all who met her. She devoted her life, selflessly, to raising her two children, Stelios and Virginia. She owned and operated Nick’s Grocery on Adams Street for over 50 years, a true pioneer businesswoman.

She learned the language and was proud to be an American citizen. While she loved living in the United States, her heart and soul were also in her beloved Chios, Greece.

Eleni is survived by her son, Stelios. Her daughter, Virginia, passed away in November.

A visitation will be held on Friday, January 24, 2025, beginning at 11 am with a service to follow at 12 noon, at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 808 N. Broom St., Wilmington, DE 19806. Interment will be in Silverbrook Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 808 N. Broom Street, Wilmington, DE 19806(https://tithe.ly/give_new/www/#/tithely/give-one-time/1585471).
