A victim of sepsis, Joe Gloyd passed on to be with our Lord on December 7, 2024. He is recently preceded by his wife, Dr. Kathy Gloyd, who died of pancreatic cancer in October. Born in Thermopolis, Wyoming to Stewart and Nina Gloyd, he leaves behind his son, James Todd Stewart of Wilmington, Delaware; three daughters, Cindy (Robert) Guy of Polson, Montana, Julie Henion of Wheatland, Wyoming, and Cathy (Ron) Hagman of Wheatland, Wyoming; as well as seven grandchildren and their spouses and children, Joe (Ira) Guy and son Orion of London, England, Kitty (Kelly) Peterson of Seattle, Washington; Ashley Hagman and daughter Hope of Wheatland, Wyoming, Cody Hagman of Wheatland, Wyoming, Jeremy (Savanna) Henion of Mead, Colorado; Jerah (Jacob) Nix, sons Graham, Juan, Jack, and daughter Claire of Chugwater, Wyoming, and Jaci (Brian) Cruz and son Eli of Plantation, Florida.
Joe attended the University of Wyoming beginning in 1955, and worked at the Thermopolis refinery during the summers. Prior to finishing his undergraduate studies, he was accepted to the graduate veterinary program at Colorado State University, where he graduated as a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in 1961.
Dr. Gloyd was in private practice from 1962-1977 in Wheatland, Wyoming, where he was also Mayor from 1970-1974. From 1977-1998 he worked for the American Veterinary Medical Association in the Scientific Activities and Governmental Divisions. Within that time, Dr. Gloyd also served on the AVMA Wellness Committee, helping veterinarians recover from addiction.
In 1991, he married Dr. Kathy Shaw, and the two of them cofounded Gloyd Group, Inc. in 1997, which later became Elevate DVM, Inc. The firm served a wide range of industrial, academic, and professional organizations related to veterinary medicine.
The Drs. Gloyd had a son, and built a truly wonderful life together for 33 years: balancing work, raising their son, and upholding their commitment to each other, their faith, their family, and their friends. Joe had a commanding presence and a strong sense of morals. He was a dependable friend, a devout Methodist, and a beloved father, grandfather, and great grandfather.
Memorial services for Joe will take place at 11 AM February 1, 2025, at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, with a visitation starting at 10 AM. Burial will be private. A second, joint memorial for Joe and Kathy will take place at a later date at the Gloyd’s cabin, 10 Alta Vista Circle, Wheatland, Wyoming.
