Franklin Peoples McVey, age 90, passed away peacefully on January 31st, 2025 after a short illness.
Frank was born July 5th, 1934 in Delaware to George and Nellie McVey. He grew up in Hockessin and lived most of his life in Marshallton. Frank enlisted in the National Guard, then the Army, and spent time stationed in Germany. He worked for Coca Cola while also owning Graylyn Crest Pet Shop, which gave him the opportunity to bring home exotic animals like snakes and even monkeys.
Frank’s passions included collecting railroad memorabilia and antique lanterns. Over the years he acquired a vast collection of lanterns, which he proudly displayed in his living room. He enjoyed tending to his tomato plants & fig trees and would happily share the fruit with everyone. Frank had a great sense of humor, was kind to everyone, and had the ability to talk to anyone and everyone.
Frank is survived by his wife of 46 years, Maryann McVey (formerly Hess); children, Steven Hess (Linda), Rena McVey (significant other, Bobby), Daniel McVey (Nicole); his grandchildren, Amanda Cooper, Andrew Hess, Jimmy Morgenroth, Justin D’Angelo, Matthew McVey, and Caleb Brechbiel; his great grandchildren, Mason, Jaxson, and Emma; as well as many nieces and nephews. Frank was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Larua Smith; brother-in-law, Raymond Smith; and son, Christopher Hess.
Frank’s life will be honored in private by his family.
