Joseph E. Campbell, age 70, passed away on January 29, 2025, holding the hand of his daughter, Randi.
Born in Pittsburgh before moving to Southern NJ, the family settled in Orchard Park, NY where Joe graduated from high school and remains close with many friends there (Let’s Go Buffalo!). After earning his bachelor’s degree from Clarkson University in Potsdam, NY, Joe began his career as an electrical and computer engineer with Moore Products Company (later purchased by Siemens) until his retirement at age 55. In his time with the company, Joe called home to Houston, TX, Elkton, MD, Springhouse, PA, Yeovil, UK, and Ridderkerk, NL, making countless lifelong friendships along the way and providing his daughter, Randi, with unforgettable travel experiences. Retirement came after moving to Delaware to be close to Randi, at which point he founded Arden Home Computer, a one-man computer support service, working as a valued and trusted technician making house calls and remote appointments for countless Wilmington residents.
Often the biggest and brightest personality in the room, Joe was a known force in various community theater groups throughout his lifetime including Wilmington Drama League, Artists Theater Association, as well as serving in several roles for The Brandywiners stage crew, acting roles, Social Chair, and President. Anyone who ever met him would tell you that Joe was an entertainer both on and off the stage, larger than life, a champion for righteousness, always willing to lend a helping hand, and will forever be in the hearts of all who loved him.
Joe is survived by his daughter, Randi McCurdy and her husband, Chad Dalton, of Newark, DE; his 3 brothers, Warren (Roy) of Erie, PA, Mike, of Houma, LA, and Brian, of Charlottesville, VA; 2 grandchildren, Campbell and Cooper McCurdy (plus 7 acquired grandchildren), 8 nieces and nephews, and many cousins.
A celebration of life will be held at MCCRERY & HARRA FUNERAL HOME, 3924 Concord Pike, Wilmington, DE, Saturday, March 1, from 3-5pm. Hawaiian shirts are encouraged. Friends and family are invited to a reception following the service (Talleyville Memorial Hall, 3919 Concord Pike, Wilmington, DE 19803).
