Fern C. Dzielak passed away peacefully on February 11, 2025, at the age of 91. Born in Crisfield, MD, in 1933, Fern made Wilmington, DE, her home for most of her life, creating a legacy of love, warmth, and adventure. She had a passion for gardening, tending to her backyard with care and joy. Her home was often filled with the comforting aroma of freshly baked cookies and cakes, a testament to her love of baking. Fern also had an adventurous spirit, traveling the world and embracing the beauty of different places and cultures.
She was predeceased by her daughter, Kathy Galvin; and her siblings, Richard “Dick” Clow, Beverly Gordy, and Patricia Whited. She is survived by her sons, Jeff Dzielak (Lisa) and Alan Dzielak (Ellen); her brother, Lonnie Clow (Joan); her grandchildren, Robin Galvin and Jamie Galvin-Greenplate (Benjamin); her great-grandchildren, Ethan Galvin, Lillianne Galvin, and Lucy Greenplate; her beloved in-laws, Liz Clow and Jerry Whited; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Her family will always cherish the memories of her kindness, humor, and her signature phrase—”Whatever”—which perfectly captured her easygoing spirit. Fern’s love, wisdom, and laughter will live on in the hearts of those who knew her.
A visitation will be held at McCrery & Harra Funeral Home, 3710 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington, DE 19808, on Saturday, February 22, at 10:00 AM, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM. In honor of Fern’s favorite color, she requested that those attending wear something red.
