Gilbert “Gibby” Saville Patterson III, age 65 of Wilmington, DE passed away peacefully on February 24, 2025 at Elkton Nursing and Rehab Center.
Gibby was born and raised in Wilmington, DE and is the son of the late June (Singer) and Gilbert S. Patterson, Jr. He attended Delcastle Vo-Tech and graduated from Dickinson HS in 1977.
Gibby was self-taught and became a master mechanic. He worked at various auto repair shops where he used his skills to also work on exotic cars and motorcycles from 1982 to 1999. He then started studying computers and received a Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer Certificate. Gibby worked for Ameristar Versalign Inc. where he was sent to New Castle County and BCBS as an IT expert from 1999 to 2002. His auto skills did not go to waste for he set his career skills to a hobby, still working and restoring cars and motorcycles, winning several awards for his work.
Sadly, Gibby was in an auto accident in 2002 and had to retire but was able to still work on cars and motorcycles at his pace. He had enjoyed in his earlier days, riding his dirt bike, 3-wheeler, 4-wheeler and his Harley.
Gibby is survived by his sister, Nancy Patterson; his cat, Monkey; his aunt, Patricia Patterson and several cousins.
A viewing will be held on Monday, March 3, from 11 am to 12 noon at McCrery & Harra Funeral Home, 3710 Kirkwood Hwy, Wilmington where a funeral service will follow at 12 noon pm. Burial will be at Gracelawn Memorial Park.
