Reichley, John

John David Reichley, 94, of Ashburn, VA, formerly of Hockessin, DE, died February 2, 2025 at Commonwealth Senior Living in Manassas, VA. John was a graduate of Shamokin High School (Class of ’48) and Penn State University, where he studied civil engineering. Except for his years of service in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War, John spent his entire career with the DuPont Company, retiring as the Research Services Superintendent of the Stine Haskell Research Center.

John was a member of the Masonic Lodge #255 of Shamokin, PA and the Penn State Alumni Club. He enjoyed golfing at DuPont Country Club, league bowling at Prices Corner Lanes, choral singing, and working in his yard and garden. He was very active in St. Phillips Lutheran Church and served as a Stevens minister.

John was predeceased by his wife of 70 years, Ethel Thomas Reichley; and son, John David Reichley, Jr. He is survived by his brother, Richard Reichley (Sandy); daughter, Ann R. Patterson (Paul); granddaughters, Jamie Fairgrieve (Scott) and Kristin King (Brandon); grandson, David Patterson (Rachel); and five great-grandchildren, Evan, Olivia, Isla, Branden and Kylie.

Services for John will be held at 11:00 a.m. on March 7th at St. Philip’s Lutheran Church (5320 Limestone Rd, Wilmington, DE 19808). Friends may call beginning at 10:00 a.m. A luncheon in the fellowship hall will follow services, after which John will be laid to rest in Silverbrook Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to St. Philip’s Lutheran Church, the American Heart Association, or the National Kidney Foundation.
