Balan, Mark Alexander

Mark Alexander Balan, age 59, passed away peacefully in his sleep in his Garnet Valley, PA, home on February 28, 2025.

He graduated from Salesianum School in 1983, and from James Madison University in 1987 with a degree in finance.

He worked for Wilmington Trust in downtown Wilmington, DE, for nearly 10 years. Then he moved to Principal Trust Co. in Elsmere, DE, where he worked for more than 15 years.

He loved spending time with his daughter, his family and his friends, some of whom knew him as “chief.” A tremendously kind and charismatic person, he was a man about town who made friends wherever he went. He enjoyed fishing, swimming, cooking, live music, and fantasy football. He always kept up with the Flyers, the Phillies, and the Eagles. He was thrilled to see the Eagles win Superbowl LIX!

He often spent his time reading. He deeply cherished his local library.

He volunteered regularly with Meal on Wheels, and hosted many nights of Barko, the proceeds benefitting Tanners Endless Love Rescue. He absolutely adored all of his furry friends and found joy in regularly pet sitting and walking them in parks to spend more time with them.

Mark is survived by his father Dr. Alexander Balan, his daughter Emily, his sister Lisa and brother Jason, his nephew Alexi, and his six nieces Maya, Sofia, Serena, Morgan, Isabella, and Parker. He was preceded in death by his mother Joan in 2018.

Services are being planned for the Spring.
