H. Salle McDaniel, age 94, of Wilmington, Delaware, died at home on March 12, 2025. Born in Secane, PA, in 1930, she graduated from Ambler High School in Ambler, PA, in 1948. Salle studied at the Philadelphia General Hospital School of Nursing and worked as a Registered Nurse at A.I. Dupont Institute Hospital for Children and the Delaware Veterans Hospital.
Salle earned her Bachelor of Nursing from the University of Delaware and was the Co-Founder of Westside Family Healthcare, which has cared for Delaware residents from 1984 through today.
Salle retired to Steamboat Springs, CO, where she lived for over ten years and was able to combine her love of skiing, the outdoors, and photography.
She is survived by her children, Kathy of Wilmington, DE; Susan and wife Patricia Smith of Carrboro, NC; Patty of Rehoboth Beach, DE; Tom of Wilmington, DE; and Salle of Crested Butte, CO; her grandchildren Crista, Kaitlin, Michael, Kelsey, Kyle, Balin, Cassidy, Huck, and Piper; her great-grandchildren Rowan, Sidra, Cormac, Willa, Olive, Emery, Winslow, Journey, and Solana; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Katherine Marie Kraus Salle Alderfer, and stepfather, Noble Alderfer; her father, Heinrich Werner Salle and stepmother, Anna Salle; her brother, Werner E. Salle and sister-in-law June Salle; her former husband, William H. McDaniel, Jr. and step-son William H. McDaniel, III.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 29, at the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, 1530 Foulk Rd, Wilmington, DE.
