Ralph Thomas Allen was a cherished husband, father, brother, grandfather and friend to many. Ralph, who was a bright light in the lives of all who knew him, passed away peacefully on March 23, 2025 at the age of 90, surrounded by loved ones. Born in Philadelphia, PA, Ralph leaves behind a legacy of service advocating for human rights, education and mentorship, and community service.
Ralph was a teacher and coach, community organizer, consultant and entrepreneur who was most proud of his work to restore Court Street School, which was a school for black children during segregation. He found joy in spending time with his wife Regina and his large and loving family. He was known as a trusted source of wisdom and guidance whose counsel was sought out by all who loved him.
Ralph is survived by his wife Regina, his children: Ralph (Cassandra) Allen, Jr., Dolores Allen, Azaryah (Darda) Da’Bar, Charlene Allen, and Jeremy (Sophie) Allen, as well as sixteen grandchildren: Kareema a’Haamid, Ralph Allen III, Randall Allen, Ryan Allen, Raymond Allen, Lauren Allen, Colin Allen, Cameron Allen, Courtney Rae Allen, Paige Rogers, Amande Stevenson, Tevyn Stevenson, Jeremy Allen, Jr., Jared Allen, Julia Allen and Madeleine Pachella. Additionally, he is survived by his twelve great-grandchildren: Jasmin A’Haamid, Zaki Michel, Inaya Michel, Yusef A’Haamid, Ralph Allen IV, Russell Allen, Raven Allen, Valencia Allen, Rey Allen, Cairo Allen, Marquest Wilson and Rayan Rogers, as well as two great-great grandsons: Rashad and Anthony, sons of Jasmin. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends – and you know he loved you all! He was preceded in death by his parents, Selma and Leon, three brothers: Melvin, Leon, Jr. and Paul, three sisters: Leona Moore, Betty Love and Bernadette Anderson; and his first wife, Cloretta Roberts Allen.
A visitation will be held from 10:00-11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 12, 2025 at the McCrery & Harra Funeral Home, 3924 Concord Pike, Wilmington, DE 19803 where a celebration of Ralph’s life will follow at 11:00a.m.
