Blake, Mary Montgomery

Mary Montgomery Blake, age 70 of Wilmington, DE passed away early Wednesday morning, March 19, 2025, due to complications from ALS.

Mary was born in Pasadena, CA and was raised in the Southern California area. She attended Bishop Amat Memorial High School in La Puente, CA and graduated from the University of San Diego with BA in Business Administration. Mary had several careers during her working life, but her greatest joy was as a teacher. She taught math at St Mary Magdalen School in Wilmington, DE and supported math and reading programs at Huckleberry Elementary School in Brookfield, CT. She was highly respected by both her colleagues and students. She was known for her kind demeanor, bright smile and organized classroom.

After retirement, Mary enjoyed traveling, visiting family and friends and decorating her homes. She particularly enjoyed the time spent with her grandchildren where she was able to provide childcare during their early years. In spite of her illness, Mary continued to enjoy visiting with friends and neighbors, dinners at local restaurants, book club and monthly game night.

Mary is survived by her husband of 46 years, Mark; her son, Jeffrey (Katie); daughter, Lauren (Manan) and her grandchildren, Emily, Joseph, Kieran, Margot and Nolan. She is also survived by brothers, John and James and sisters, Therese and Kathy plus multiple nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents John Montgomery and Vivian Daniger.

During her illness, Mary and her family enjoyed the love and support of Mary’s many friends located throughout the country. These individuals made the burden of an ALS diagnosis easier to bear. The family is forever grateful for their support.

Funeral services will be held on April 11, 2025 at St Mary Magdalen Catholic Church located at 7 Sharpley Rd., Wilmington, DE. Visitation will begin at 9:30 am followed by a eulogy at 10:45 am with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 11:00 am. Inurnment will be at St. Joseph on the Brandywine Cemetery, 10 Old Church Rd., Wilmington, DE following the Mass.

The family is also grateful for the care and support provided by the Penn Comprehensive ALS Center, the Mid-Atlantic Region of the ALS Association, the Team Gleason Foundation, Compassionate Care ALS and Delaware Hospice.
