Henry, Ronald Lee

Ronald Lee Henry, age 92 of Wilmington, DE, formerly of Coatesville, PA passed away peacefully with his wife and family by his side on Tuesday, March 25, 2025. Ron was born and raised in Coatesville, PA. He graduated from Coatesville High School in 1950.

Immediately out of high school, June 12th, Ron proudly entered the United States Navy. He served on the USS Worcester CL114. Ronald’s military life was very important to him. He was a lifetime member of General W.W. Atterbury Post #3420, the USS Worchester Association and a Life-member of the U.S Navy Cruiser Sailors Association.

After his honorable discharge, he began his career with the Reading Railroad, later part of Conrail, for over 21 years. Ronald was a yardmaster working at DuPont Carney’s Point, Gibbstown, NJ, Wilmington, DE and Coatesville, PA.

He was also a member of the United Transportation Union (UTU), St. Phillips Lutheran Church and the Delaware Saengerbund Association. Ronald volunteered for many years at the Emmanuel Dining Room and at the Veterans Hospital playing Bingo with the other Veterans.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Ruth B. (Scheibe) Henry; his daughter, Sharon Caffrey and her husband Steve; a grandson, Brian T. Powell, Jr. and his wife Jessica; a granddaughter, Kyra Lee Caffery and a great grandson, Colt Powell. Ron loved being with family and often picked up his grandchildren from school and drove them to their after-school activities. He enjoyed traveling with Ruth and they were often accompanied by good friends and family. He was close with Ruth’s seven siblings and their spouses, often playing cards with them on the weekends. He enjoyed serving as the family hunting cabin cook.

A graveside service with military honors will be held on Tuesday, April 1, at 11:00 am at Philadelphia Memorial Park, 124 Phoenixville Pike, Malvern, PA 19355. (Family and Friends may gather at the cemetery office to be led to the graveside services.) Following the cemetery, family and friends are invited to lunch at the Ludwig Grille and Oyster House, 2904 Conestoga Rd., Glenmoore, PA 19343.
